Douglas and Friends ... The horse

Returning home after the performance to which he belonged in a theater in London, 12 December 2009, Alistair Douglas found his friend unconscious. The young bulldog had just turned one!

Alistair adored his young friend, who was a cousin or nephew of Alexander Bull. Seeing the dog, Alexander, to the British Museum where Alexander had given her appointment, Alistair had immediately wanted to adopt a bulldog and it was important to him that it comes from the same breeder as the friend of Alexander.

After accidentally discovered the existence of this blog and acknowledging in words that speak of Alexander the wonderful boy he knew as a teenager while both were attending the same college, Alistair wrote the first comment last fall. I asked him to write me privately and we talked for two months almost daily correspondence. He wept as the start of the Little Prince. I recognized a friend in Alistair worthy of Alexander. I put him in touch with the best friend of Alexander who went to London to meet on two occasions, this charming young man who was almost the youngest brother of our Little Prince.

Like him, he and loved reading about all who loved Alexander. Although he looks frail, Alistair loved excursions into the most distant countries in the less frequented of the World, where he brought great pictures.

Last fall, he sent me many photos of his friend Douglas whom he was so proud, so happy. The dog was beautiful, so touching, and photos taken at different times, were truly magnificent. I like the picture I put at the top of this post, found on the Internet, but the pictures made by Alistair, I have printed in large format, are absolutely incomparable.

The last message I received from Alistair goes back to December 10, 2009. I was worried about not receiving anything from him because he wrote me almost every day. On December 27, 2009, I learned that Douglas had died on December 12 and shortly after Alistair had a terrible accident and that two weeks ago Alistair was in intensive care in a London hospital. Jane immediately went to London to see Alistair but it was not his official family, the hospital would not let her see Alistair nor give him. All they have agreed to do is deliver the letter Jane has written before leaving the hospital. A few days later, we learned from colleagues that his family had come for Alistair. Since we are not new, as we know his family name and we do not have contact information, there is no way to contact her.

The Bulldogs have a weak respiratory system. If they are comfortable in the cold and they love playing in the snow, they can not stand the heat at all (last summer, visiting Paris, Alexander Bull had to spend three days under observation in clinic because of the heat). They can make sleep apnea. That probably won Douglas: he slept until his friend and he simply did not wake up ...

Every day, I still think of Douglas. It would be impossible to forget: great pictures of him around my desk and I always wear one of them on me.

I also think Alistair course. The image of a beautiful boy who accompanies him like he sent me pictures of his friend Douglas. I am not resigned to his silence and do not hear from him. I hope he will write itself soon ... If by chance someone knew ...

Life is sometimes difficult. But what is most intolerable is the absence, silence and anxiety for those whom we love. I think of Alexander, I think Alistair, I think of Alexander the Welsh ... I think obviously it to Jane who just arrived a terrible disaster (as if she needed a new event!) And the consequences will be felt in the months ahead and, anyway, things do will be like before ...
